The jade tree (Crassula ovata) is extremely popular in our region, but few people manage to make it bloom. Many even think that it does not bloom at all! The truth is that it needs the right age (at least 4-5 years) and a specific nutritional “shock”.
Forget the comments under viral videos – here are three real natural fertilizers that activate the flowering of the jade tree:
- Eggshell powder (Calcium and magnesium)
The jade tree hates acidic soil. If the substrate is too acidic, the plant just “survives”.
Why it works: The shells provide calcium, which strengthens the tissues and neutralizes the pH.
Application: Dry the shells, grind them into a fine powder and work one teaspoon into the top layer of soil once every two months.
- Banana peel infusion (Potassium booster)
Potassium is a key element for bud formation. Without it, the plant will only have beautiful green leaves, but no flowers.
Why it works: Bananas are a natural storehouse of potassium and phosphorus, which the plant needs precisely in the period before flowering (late autumn/winter).
Application: Pour a liter of water over the chopped peel, let it steep for 24 hours and water the succulent once a month with this “tea”.
- Iodine solution (Flowering stimulator)
Iodine acts as a catalyst on the plants. It speeds up metabolism and protects the roots from rot, which is a common problem with succulents.
Why it works: It stimulates the plant to reproduce (flower).
Application: Add one drop of pharmacy iodine to 1 liter of standing water. Mix well and pour the plant around the edge of the pot (not on the leaves).

In order for these fertilizers to work, you must follow this “blooming strategy”:

Cold shock From October to December, the plant needs a temperature of around 10 – 15 °C.
Absolute darkness At night, the plant must not even be exposed to street lighting (it needs 12 hours of darkness).
Stop watering Water only once a month in winter. Drought will “scare” the plant and force it to bloom to preserve itself.
