🍇🌿 How to grow mulberries in a pot… and harvest all season long

Mulberries are often considered large garden trees, but many people don’t know that they can easily be grown in a pot. With the right variety and a little care, you can even harvest fresh fruit for months on your balcony or terrace.

Choose the right variety
Compact or dwarf varieties, such as dwarf mulberries, are particularly suitable for growing in pots. They stay small but still produce a lot of fruit.
Use a large pot
The pot should be at least 30-40 cm in diameter and have good drainage holes. Mulberries develop strong roots and need plenty of space.

Loose, nutrient-rich soil
Use a mixture of:
good quality potting soil
a little compost
sand or perlite for drainage
This will keep the roots healthy and encourage strong growth.

Plenty of sun is key
Mulberries love full sun. Place the pot in the brightest spot on your balcony or patio, ideally with at least 6-8 hours of sunlight per day.
Water regularly
Soil in pots dries out more quickly. Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging.
Fertilize lightly in spring

An organic fruit or berry fertilizer in spring encourages growth and fruit production.
Prune for more fruit
A light pruning in late winter keeps the plant compact and productive. New shoots usually produce the most berries.
🌿 Tip: Mulberries often ripen gradually over many weeks, so you can harvest fresh fruit continuously – sometimes all summer long.
