Mole are cute creatures, but every gardener knows how much mischief they can cause. Ripped flower beds, destroyed lawn and mounds of clay that appear overnight can spoil the joy of growing. There are many ways on the market to get rid of moles – from ultrasonic scarers to chemical agents. But many of them are expensive and not always effective.
But today we will show you a simple trick that costs almost nothing and really works.
How does the method work?
The principle is based on vibrations and noise that spread through the soil. It does not directly deter the mole itself, but its main source of food – earthworms. Once the earthworms are removed from a given place, the mole no longer has a reason to stay there.
What you will need
1.5 meter long wooden or metal pole
empty plastic PET bottle
scissors or a knife
How to make a scarer
Drive the pole into the ground about 40 cm deep.
Make a hole in the bottom of the PET bottle large enough to fit the bottle onto the pole.
Cut 3-4 rectangular holes on the sides of the bottle and bend the plastic flaps outwards. These “wings” will spin in the wind.
Place the bottle on the pole.
When the wind starts to blow, the bottle will spin, making a characteristic sound and transmitting vibrations to the soil via the pole.
Tips for better effectiveness
Place several of these scarers in different places in the garden.
Move them every few weeks so that the moles don’t get used to them.
They work best in open areas where there is more wind.
Advantages of this method
Ecological – no chemicals or poisons.
Cheap – you can use an old PET bottle and a piece of stick.
Easy to make – done in a few minutes.
Safe – does not harm pets or children.
Summary
If you are looking for a simple and proven way to get rid of moles, try this homemade trick. Not only will it cost you almost nothing, but you will also recycle old PET bottles and save on expensive scarers.
