Excellent fertilizer for cucumbers: Lush leaves, strong bushes, and a bountiful cucumber harvest 🥒🌿
For years, I’ve relied on a tried-and-tested herbal infusion for growing cucumbers. It not only promotes plant growth and fertility but also protects against diseases and pests. Completely chemical-free – just a little natural magic and a few days of patience. And the result? The bushes stay vibrant green, don’t wilt, and the fruits grow like crazy.
🌱 What you need:
Fresh nettles – a full bucket (ideally before flowering)
Garlic sprouts or cloves – about 30 sprouts / 15–20 cloves
Mustard powder – 5 tablespoons
Water – enough to cover everything to the brim
💧 Why these ingredients?
Stinging nettles are the queen of green manure – they contain potassium, calcium, iron, and nitrogen, and also act as a natural growth stimulant for leaves and fruit.
Garlic and its sprouts naturally repel pests, prevent the spread of mold (including powdery mildew), and strengthen plant immunity.
Mustard flour improves soil structure, provides phosphorus and sulfur, has a fungicidal effect, and increases yield.
🧪 Here’s how – step by step:
Pick fresh stinging nettles and fill a plastic or wooden bucket with them (no metal!).
Add chopped garlic sprouts or cloves.
Stir in 5 tablespoons of mustard powder.
Fill with water and stir.
Let it steep for 6–7 days in a warm, shady place. Stir occasionally.
– Caution: Do not let it steep for longer than 7 days, otherwise the protective effect will be lost and strong fermentation will begin.
- … 💦 Application of the prepared infusion:
🔹 Root watering (1x per week):
Mix 2 liters of infusion with 10 liters of water.
Pour directly onto the roots – ideally in the morning or evening, not in the midday sun.
🔹 Foliar feeding (1x every 10 days):
Mix 1 liter of infusion with 10 liters of water.
Spray the upper and lower sides of the leaves – this protects the leaves from mold and strengthens their defenses.
✅ Benefits of this fertilizer:
The leaves stay green and vibrant for longer.
The bushes have a robust structure and are very resistant to disease.
It promotes flowering and fruiting – cucumbers grow faster and in greater quantity.
It is 100% natural, organic, and economical.
👩🌾 Extra tip: If you don’t have mustard flour, you can use some ground mustard seeds. And if you don’t want to wait a whole week, you can first pour hot water over the nettles and then let them cool – this speeds up the extraction process.
🌞 Nature knows what it’s doing – and when we help it, it rewards us with a bountiful harvest. Try this infusion and see how your garden thanks you.
