A small amount of alcohol can be added to the water, which will slow down too fast growth and strengthen the stems:

20% alcohol: 1 part alcohol + 3 parts water
25% alcohol: 1 part alcohol + 4 parts water
Only a small amount is really used – the goal is not fertilization, but plant stability.
