Pastry Roll-Ups

Pastry Roll-Ups are incredibly versatile and popular, as they are quick to make, easy to customize, and highly addictive! They can be savory (stuffed with cheese, ham, or pesto) or sweet (with cinnamon, chocolate, or jam).

Since they are often served as an easy appetizer or snack, here is a recipe for Savory Pesto and Prosciutto Roll-Ups using ready-made puff pastry:

🥐 Savory Puff Pastry Roll-Ups (Pesto & Prosciutto)

These are perfect for parties and take only minutes to prepare!

🛒 Ingredients

  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry (store-bought, thawed but still cold)
  • 3 Tbsp Basil Pesto (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 slices Prosciutto (or thin-sliced ham/turkey)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese (freshly grated)
  • 1 Egg (whisked, for egg wash)
  • Optional: Sesame seeds or dried herbs for sprinkling

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Pastry (5 minutes)

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface or directly onto the parchment paper.

2. Assemble the Roll-Up (5 minutes)

  1. Spread the Base: Spread the pesto evenly over the entire surface of the puff pastry, leaving a small, clean border along one long edge.
  2. Add Layers: Lay the Prosciutto slices over the pesto.
  3. Sprinkle: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the prosciutto.

3. Rolling and Cutting (5 minutes)

  1. Starting from the long edge opposite the clean border, tightly roll the pastry into a log. The clean edge will help seal the log.
  2. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick slices.
  3. Place the slices cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.

4. Baking and Finishing (15 minutes)

  1. Brush the tops and sides of the roll-ups lightly with the whisked egg wash.
  2. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the roll-ups are puffed, golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  3. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

✨ Sweet Roll-Up Variation (Cinnamon Sugar)

  • Omit the pesto and prosciutto.
  • Brush the pastry with melted butter.
  • Sprinkle generously with a mix of Cinnamon and Brown Sugar.
  • Roll, slice, and bake as directed.
