Traditional Hungarian Apple Pie Recipe
Ingredients:
Dough:
500 g fine flour
250 g butter or margarine
150 g powdered sugar
1 egg
1 packet baking powder
150 g sour cream
a pinch of salt
Filling:
1.5 kg apples (sweeter variety, e.g. Golden)
100 g sugar (to taste)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
100 g breadcrumbs
For spreading:
1 egg
Preparation:
Preparation of the dough: Mix the flour, powdered sugar, baking powder and salt. Crumble the butter into it, then add the egg and sour cream. Knead the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
To make the filling: Peel and grate the apples. Squeeze out any excess juice with your hands. Place the grated apples in a bowl, add the sugar and cinnamon, and simmer for 5-10 minutes until the moisture has evaporated.
To assemble the pie: Roll out one piece of dough to the size of the baking tray and place it in the baking tray. Sprinkle the dough with breadcrumbs to absorb the moisture, then spread the apple compote on top.
To assemble the pie: Roll out the other piece of dough and place on top of the filling. Pinch the edges together and prick the top with a fork. Brush the top with egg.
Baking: Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 30-40 minutes until the top is golden brown.
Enjoy your meal!
