Absolutely! Mug gingerbread is one of the easiest, fastest and most fragrant ways to bring Christmas atmosphere to the kitchen, and you don’t have to let the dough rest for days!
Here’s a recipe that is guaranteed to be soft and delicious:
✨🍯 Mug Gingerbread (Quick, Soft Recipe)
(For the mug size, use a mug of about 2.5 dl and always use the same mug for measuring.)
📝 Ingredients
Quantity Ingredient Note
3 cups Fine Flour
1 cup Powdered Sugar (or granulated sugar) Powdered sugar gives a finer texture.
1/2 cup Butter or margarine Melted.
1/2 cup Honey Liquid honey.
1 egg Large size.
2-3 tbsp. Gingerbread spice mix To taste, minimum 2 spoons!
1 tsp. Baking soda
Pinch of salt
🔪 Preparation
- 🥣 Assemble the dough
Dry ingredients: In a large bowl, mix together the flour, powdered sugar, baking soda, gingerbread spice mix and salt
Wet ingredients: In another bowl, melt the butter. Mix in the honey and beaten egg.
Assembly: Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture. Knead quickly into a smooth dough.
Tip: If the dough is very sticky, add a little flour. If it is too dry, a teaspoon of milk can help.
Resting (Optional, but Recommended): Although this mug recipe doesn’t require several days of aging, it’s a good idea to let the dough rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes (or even overnight). This will firm it up and make it easier to roll out. - 🍪 Rolling and Baking
Preparation: Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line two baking sheets with baking paper.
Rolling: Roll out the dough on a floured board to about 3-5 mm thick. (Don’t roll it out too thin, or it will be tough!)
Cutting: Cut out the dough with any Christmas shapes you like.
Baking: Place the figures on the baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
Caution: It’s good when the edges start to brown but the center is still soft. If you overbake it, it will be tough!
Cooling: Remove the baking sheet and leave the cookies on it until they are completely cool (they are still fragile when warm). - ❄️ Decoration (Optional)
If you want to decorate the gingerbread, you can do it with a simple egg white-based glaze:
Glaze ingredients: 1 egg white, 150-200 g icing sugar, a few drops of lemon juice.
Preparation: Beat the egg whites, then add the icing sugar and lemon juice. Mix until you get a thick, shiny glaze. Fill a bag or piping bag and decorate the cooled cookies!
Happy baking and a fragrant Christmas!
