What a great plan! Fanta bars are the queen of retro cakes, your colleagues will love them at work!
The dough recipe is perfect, it’s a classic, indestructible, cocoa sponge cake base.
🎂 Fanta Bar Sponge Cake Base (Cocoa Sponge Cake from 7 Eggs)
From the given ingredients, the base of the Fanta bars is made like this:
Dough Ingredients:
7 eggs
7 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. water (or oil)
7 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 packet of baking powder
Preparation (Sponge Cake):
Separation: Separate the eggs.
Yellow cream: Beat the 7 egg yolks with the 7 tablespoons of sugar and the 2 tablespoons of water (or oil) until you get a nice, pale, creamy consistency.
Dry ingredients: Mix the 7 tablespoons of flour, 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder and baking powder.
Protein foam: Beat the 7 egg whites until stiff.
Assembly: First add the flour mixture to the yellow cream, then carefully fold in the stiff egg white foam with a wooden spoon. It is important that the foam does not break, this will make the dough loose.
Baking: Pour into a baking tray (approx. 30×40 cm) lined with baking paper and bake in a preheated oven (approx. 180 °C) for approx. 25-30 minutes (pin test!).
🍊 The Missing Cream and Fanta Topping
The specialty of the Fanta bar is the creamy layer and the fantastic soda glaze! The most popular version is made with a butter or margarine cream.
To complete the recipe, I recommend the following cream and topping:
🔸 Cream Ingredients:
250 g margarine or butter (room temperature)
250 g powdered sugar
500 g cottage cheese (or sour cream and powdered sugar, if you prefer that instead of cottage cheese)
1 packet vanilla sugar
Preparation of the Cream:
Mix the margarine/butter with the powdered sugar and vanilla sugar until fluffy.
Mix the cottage cheese (or sour cream) until smooth, then add it little by little to the sugary margarine.
Smooth the cream onto the cooled sponge cake.
🍊 Fanta Topping Ingredients:
5 dl Fanta or orange carbonated soft drink (or fruit-flavored syrup + soda)
2 packets of vanilla pudding powder (or no-cook jelly powder, if you want it faster)
3-4 tablespoons of sugar (to taste)
Preparation of Fanta Topping:
Take out about 1 dl of Fanta soft drink and mix the pudding powder and sugar until smooth.
Bring the remaining Fanta to a boil.
Pour in the pudding powder mixture and thicken while stirring continuously.
Cool slightly (if it is too hot, it will melt the cream), then pour over the creamy layer.
Cooling: Let it cool completely and solidify in the refrigerator before slicing and taking it to work!
Bon appetit to your colleagues!
