Powerful Green Smoothie for Eyes, Blood, and Liver
This smoothie is rich in nutrients that can be beneficial for these areas. Makes approximately 1 to 2 servings.
Ingredients:
1 large handful of spinach or kale: Rich in vitamin K, vitamin A (beta-carotene), vitamin C, folate, iron, and antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin (important for eye health).
1 medium carrot: Rich in beta-carotene (a precursor to vitamin A), essential for good vision, especially in low light conditions.
1/2 to 1 beet (cooked or raw, peeled): Contains betalains, which have powerful antioxidant properties and can support the liver. It is also rich in iron and folate, which are good for blood formation.
1/2 cup berries (such as blueberries and raspberries): Rich in vitamin C and anthocyanins, which promote eye health and have antioxidant properties.
1/2 apple (with peel): Provides fiber and natural sweetness.
1 small piece of fresh ginger (approximately 1-2 cm), peeled: Has anti-inflammatory and digestive properties.
1/2 lemon, juice: Vitamin C is crucial for the absorption of plant-based iron and has powerful antioxidant properties.
1 tablespoon chia or flax seeds: Provide omega-3 fatty acids and fiber, which aid digestion and may have anti-inflammatory properties.
200-250 ml water or coconut water: To achieve desired consistency.
Optional: 1/2 avocado: For extra creaminess and healthy fats that increase the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (such as vitamin A).
Equipment needed:
High-performance blender
Preparation:
Prepare the ingredients: Wash and peel all ingredients, if necessary. Cut the carrot and beetroot into smaller pieces to make blending easier.
Blend: First, add the liquid (water/coconut water) to the blender. Then add all the other ingredients.
Pure: Blend on high speed until the smoothie is completely creamy and smooth. If it’s too thick, add more liquid gradually.
Enjoy immediately: Drink the smoothie immediately to benefit from the fresh nutrients.
Nutrients in this smoothie and their potential benefits:
For the eyes: Beta-carotene (carrots, spinach, kale) is converted in the body into vitamin A, essential for vision. Lutein and zeaxanthin (spinach, kale) protect the eyes from harmful light and may reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Against anemia (indirectly): Iron (spinach, cabbage, beetroot) is important for the formation of hemoglobin. Vitamin C (berries, lemon) is a crucial factor for the absorption of plant-based iron (non-heme iron). Folate (spinach, cabbage, beetroot) is also important for blood formation.
For the liver: Antioxidants (from all ingredients, especially betalains from beetroot) protect liver cells from damage. Fiber (apple, chia seeds, flaxseeds) aids digestion and helps the body excrete waste more efficiently, which relieves pressure on the liver. Ginger can also support liver function.
This smoothie is a delicious way to nourish your body from the inside out. It can be a valuable supplement to promote your overall health and support your body’s natural functions.
