Rediscover onions: The magic of the air fryer! 🧅✨
With the air fryer, you can transform simple onions into a sweet and crispy flavor experience. They’re perfect as a side dish, topping, or simply as a snack.
Ingredients:
2-3 medium onions (yellow or red is best)
1 tablespoon olive oil (or other heat-resistant oil)
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Optional: ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon paprika (sweet or smoked), a pinch of chili flakes for a little extra spice
Optional: Fresh parsley or chives for garnish
Equipment needed:
Air fryer
A large bowl for mixing
Preparation:
Prepare the onions:
Peel the onions and halve them.
Cut the onion halves into half rings about 0.5 cm thick or into even wedges. Make sure the pieces aren’t too thin, as they could burn quickly. Try to slice them as evenly as possible so they cook at the same time.
Tip: If you want onion rings, slice them crosswise and then carefully separate the rings.
Season:
Place the sliced onions in a large bowl.
Add the olive oil and mix well to lightly coat all the onion pieces.
Sprinkle salt, pepper, and optional seasonings. Mix everything thoroughly again, preferably with your hands, to ensure the seasonings stick to the surface.
Cook in the air fryer:
Place the seasoned onions in a single layer in the basket of your air fryer. Avoid overlapping so the onions crisp up and don’t steam. You may need to cook the onions in batches.
Set the air fryer to 180°C (350°F).
Cook the onions for 15-20 minutes.
Very important: Shake the basket or stir the onions every 5 minutes to ensure even browning and crispiness.
The exact cooking time depends on the thickness of your onions and the model of your air fryer. Keep an eye on them and cook until golden brown and lightly caramelized.
Serving:
Remove the crispy onions immediately from the air fryer.
Sprinkle with fresh parsley or chives, if desired.
Enjoy immediately!
