Here are the most popular and effective tricks:
- The aluminum trick (most often and often very effective!)
This is probably the trick you indicate because it is widespread and very effective.
This is how it works:
Take a piece of aluminum foil (approx. 20-30 cm long).
Fold the aluminum foil several times so that a thick strip or a small package is created. The thicker the film, the better.
Now repeatedly cut scissors into the folded aluminum foil with your blunt scissors. Make it as long as possible, continuous cuts.
Repeat this 10-20 times.
Why it works: The edges of the aluminum foil act like a fine sandpaper and grate the cutting surfaces of the scissors slightly, which smoothes small bumps and the blades are sharpened.
- The sandpaper trick
Similar to the aluminum foil, but with a little more “bite”.
This is how it works:
Take a piece of fine sandpaper (grain 150-220).
Fold the sandpaper with the rough side outwards.
Now cut your scissors repeatedly into the folded sandpaper.
Why it works: The grinding particles of the paper carry material from the scissor blades and sharpen them.
- The glass trick (for light dullness)
This trick is good for scissors that are only slightly dull.
This is how it works:
Take a glass vessel (e.g. a jam glass or a glass bottle).
Open the scissors wide and try to position the blades so that you touch the glass edge.
