It’s fascinating how our bodies have energy and connection points! The idea that there are palm points for coughs, headaches and even depression that “help faster than pills” is based on the principles of traditional medicine, such as acupressure and reflexology. Although they are not a substitute for professional medical care, many people in Ternopil and around the world find relief and well-being through these techniques.
The premise is that our hands (and feet) are micro-systems that reflect the entire body, and stimulating specific points can influence related organs and systems.
Palm Points for Fast Relief: Basic Acupressure and Reflexology
Here I present some of the most well-known palm points and their supposed benefits, with the caveat that this is a complement and not a substitute for medical treatment. Always consult a health care professional for serious conditions.
To apply pressure, you can use the thumb of your opposite hand, a finger, or even a rounded pencil. Apply firm but comfortable pressure in a circular motion or hold for 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
- For Coughs and Respiratory Problems:
Lung Point (Lung 10 – P10, or Great Abyss Point):
Location: On the palm of your hand, at the base of your thumb, right on the fleshy pad between your thumb and wrist.
How to apply: Press firmly on this area. It is believed to help relieve coughs, congestion, and improve lung function.
Lung Reflex Point:
Location: On the palm of your hand, below your index and middle fingers, on the top of the fleshy pad.
How to apply: Massage this area with your thumb. - For Headaches (and Stress Relief):
Hegu Point (Large Intestine 4 – LI4): This is one of the most famous and effective points.
Location: On the back of the hand, in the fleshy space between the base of the thumb and index finger.
How to apply: Firmly press this point with the thumb and index finger of the opposite hand. It is excellent for headaches, toothaches, neck tension and general stress. Caution: Do not use during pregnancy.
Head/Brain Reflex Points:
Location: On the tips of all fingers (especially the thumb).
How to apply: Press or pinch the tips of your fingers. - For Depression and Emotional Well-Being (and Anxiety):
Neiguan Point (Pericardium 6 – LU6): Although this point is more on the wrist, it is very effective for anxiety, nausea and emotional balance.
Location: Three finger widths below the crease of the wrist, between the two main tendons.
How to apply: Press firmly with the thumb. Helps to calm the mind and relieve anxiety.
Heart/Solar Plexus Point:
Location: In the center of the palm.
How to apply: Massage this area in a circular motion. It is associated with stress relief, relaxation and emotional balance.
Mood/Spirit Point (Heart 7 – C7):
Location: In the crease of the wrist, in line with the little finger, in the depression between the bone and the tendon.
How to apply: Apply sustained pressure. It is believed to calm the spirit, relieve insomnia, anxiety and sadness.
Important Considerations:
Not a substitute for medical care: These techniques are complementary. If you experience persistent or severe symptoms of cough, headache or depression, it is essential that you consult a doctor in Ternopil for proper diagnosis and treatment.
Consistency: Acupressure and reflexology generally work best with regular practice.
Sensitivity: Everyone is different. If you feel intense pain or discomfort, reduce the pressure or stop.
Hydration and Relaxation: To enhance the effect, perform the massages in a calm environment and make sure you are well hydrated.
I hope these points are useful for you to find some relief and well-being in your daily life.
