A clean iron is crucial for smooth, stain -free clothing. But over time, residues of the starch, lime or burned fibers can settle on the sole of the iron and leave unsightly stains on their clothes. Don’t worry, you don’t have to buy expensive special cleaners! There are old, proven tricks that get your iron in less than 5 minutes again.
How to clean your iron in 5 minutes – without expensive chemistry! ✨
The key is to use the right home remedies that gently loosen or rub off the contamination without damaging the sensitive surface of the iron sole.
- Trick: salt (for stubborn, burned residues) 🧂
This trick uses the abrasive (grinding) effect of salt to scrape over burned residues.
What you need: an old cotton cloth (or baking paper), coarse salt (sea salt or coarse dining salt).
This is how it works:
Place the cotton cloth (or baking paper) on a solid, heat -resistant surface (e.g. an ironing board or a table top).
Sprinkle a good amount of coarse salt on it so that a small layer is created.
Place your iron on the highest level (without steam!) And let it fully heat.
When the iron is hot, iron with slight pressure over the salt. The burned residues should settle on the salt and rub off from the sole.
Wipe the iron sole clean with a damp cloth after cooling.
- Trick: vinegar & baking powder (for stains and light lime deposits) 🧪
This combination is a power package against discoloration and lime.
What you need: white household vinegar, baking powder (soda), a clean cotton cloth, cotton swab.
This is how it works:
Mix a paste made of 1-2 tablespoons of baking powder and enough white vinegar to get a thick, strokable paste.
Apply the paste to the cold iron sole, especially on the stains and discolored areas. Let them take effect for a few minutes (approx. 5 minutes).
Grate the paste gently with a clean cotton cloth. You can use a cotton swab for the steam holes that was dipped in a little vinegar.
Then wipe the bracket sole thoroughly cleanly with a damp cloth to remove all the residues. Important: Make sure that no remnants of baking powder remain in the steam holes.
- Trick: toothpaste (for shine and light spots) 🦷
Similar to cleaning knives, the fine abrasive substances in the toothpaste also have miracles.
What you need: white toothpaste (no gel toothpaste), a clean cotton cloth.
This is how it works:
Put a small amount of white toothpaste on the cold iron sole.
Grate the toothpaste with the cloth gently in circular movements over the entire area of the sole until the stains disappear and it shines.
Then wipe the iron sole thoroughly with a damp cloth and dry it well.
Important information for all tricks:
Separate the iron from the electricity: Before each cleaning, be sure to separate the iron from the power grid and let them cool completely.
No sponge: Never use scrubs or metallic brushes because they could scratch the sole of the iron. Always use soft cloths.
Regular cleaning: Regular cleaning prevents stubborn residues from forming.
Descaling the steam iron: Remember to regularly descale the inside of the iron, especially if you use hard water. Most iron have a self -cleaning function or you can use distilled water.
With these simple tricks you look like new in no time, and your clothes remain stain -free!
