And with good reason, because who doesn’t like fried dough? Whether it’s churros, ring donuts, fritters, or beignets… fried dough desserts are loved by all. This recipe for Sweet Fritter Rolls is easy and fun to make. It’s made with yeasted dough, leave to rest, then fried until golden. The yeasted dough gives you that typical donut flavor we all love so much, while the sugar on the outside adds sweetness and a bit of crunch. You’ll love how easy it is to make these classic Sweet Fritter Rolls!

How to Create Spirals
Roll each piece of dough in a thin rope of about 9 inches. It will be easier to roll a non-floured surface. Then hold the one end, while twisting the other end around it, creating a spiral.

Sweet Fritter Variations
There are many ways to customize this recipe according to your liking. Use vanilla sugar, cocoa sugar, or cinnamon sugar instead of granulated sugar.

The sweet fritters can also be glazed with an icing glaze. Whip up a quick and easy glaze icing by whisking together 2 cups of confectioners’ sugar, 2 tbsp butter, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and up to 4 tsp milk.

Tips
Make sure to use a neutral oil suitable for frying at higher temperatures. Canola oil, peanut oil, sunflower oil, or corn oil will be suitable. If you want to reuse the oil, allow it to cool, and strain it. You can use it a few more times for more batches of sweet fritters.

Don’t make your oil too hot, otherwise, the fritters will burn before the dough is cooked through. Use a thermometer to heat the oil to about 350°F. The oil should also not be too cold, otherwise, the fritters will absorb too much oil, making them oily. If you don’t have a thermometer, check the temperature by using a small piece of bread. Once you think the oil is ready, drop a piece of bread in the oil. If it bubbles slightly and turns golden, it’s ready to use. If it bubbles too rapidly, the oil might be too hot. If it doesn’t bubble at all, allow the oil to heat up more.

Make sure not to skip the proofing (rising) steps. Allowing the dough to rise properly will create a light and fluffy fritter, instead of a dense one.

How to Store Sweet Fritters
The sweet fritters are best served fresh, while they’re crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Leftovers can be stored at room temperature (in an airtight container) for up to 3 days.

Reheat leftovers in the Airfryer (if you prefer them crunchy), or in the microwave (if you prefer a fluffier texture).

Ingredients
MILK
250ml (1 cup)
YEAST
7g dry (2 1/4 teaspoons)
SUGAR
2 tbsp
SALT
1/2 tsp
EGG
1
MELTED BUTTER
2 tbsp
FLOUR
400 g (3 cups)
Instructions
In a bowl whisk together warm milk with sugar and yeast.

Step 1
Add the egg, butter, flour, and salt.

Step 2
Knead the mixture to form a smooth and elastic dough.

Step 3
Let the dough rise for 2 hours.

Step 4
Divide the dough into 8 pieces.

Step 5
Roll out the pieces of dough into a long rope sausage.

Step 6
Twist the dough into a spiral and place it on a piece of parchment paper.

Step 7
Fry the spirals in hot oil until golden brown.

Step 8
Sprinkle with sugar.

Step 9
Enjoy!

Sweet fritters and donuts can be seen in all kinds of cuisine.
