The young plants overwinter indoors in a bright spot.
Early spring (February to March): When pruning overwintered mother plants, you can use the cut shoots directly as seedlings.
How to take cuttings correctly

Choosing the shoot: Select healthy, vigorous shoots that have no flowers or buds.
Clean cut: Using a sharp, clean knife, cut off shoot tips about 8–10 cm long, making the cut just below a leaf node (the “joint” where a leaf grows).

Removing leaves and buds: Remove the lower leaves and any flower buds. This reduces water loss and allows the plant to focus all its energy on root development.
Planting and rooting
Potting mix instead of water: Although geraniums can root in a glass of water, they develop a much stronger root system when planted in soil. Growing medium: Use a low-nutrient potting mix intended for seed starting (optionally mixed with a little sand or perlite). In nutrient-rich soil, cuttings develop roots too slowly.
Planting: Insert the cutting into the soil to a depth of approximately 2–3 cm and gently press down the growing medium. 4. Proper placement and care

Light and temperature: Place the pots in a bright, warm spot (approx. 18–22°C), but out of direct midday sunlight.
Watering: Keep the growing medium slightly moist. Ensure the plants do not sit in water (waterlogging), otherwise the unrooted cuttings will quickly rot.

Expert tip: Pinching back
Once the cutting has rooted well and begins to produce new leaves (after 2–4 weeks), gently pinch off the very tip of the shoot. This encourages the young plant to branch out, resulting in an exceptionally bushy and prolific bloomer by spring.

Propagating geraniums (pelargoniums) from cuttings is by far the easiest and most effective way to obtain plenty of new, vigorous young plants for the upcoming balcony season at no extra […]

[4

post-21472","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nteresting
["GET
