While ants are useful in nature, they can cause damage in the garden \u2013 especially by breeding and protecting aphids. If you want to get rid of them without using aggressive chemicals, there are a number of effective and ecological alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Aromatic Barriers and Repellents
    Ants rely on their scent trail (pheromones). Intense scents can disorient them and force them to change their route.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Ground cinnamon and cloves: Sprinkle them directly on anthills or along their paths.
    Coffee grounds: Sprinkle dried coffee grounds around flower beds or directly on tree trunks. It acts as a barrier and also gently fertilizes the soil.
    Aromatic herbs: Plant peppermint, lavender, marigolds, or elderberry in your garden. Ants naturally avoid these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Natural sprays and physical barriers
      Vinegar solution: Mix white vinegar and water in a 1:1 ratio. Spray along walkways and around flower beds. The vinegar will safely destroy their pheromone trail.
      Essential oils: Add 10\u201315 drops of peppermint, tea tree, or lemon oil to a bottle of water and a little dish soap.
      Wood ash and chalk: A chalk line or strip of wood ash creates an unpleasant physical barrier for ants that they don\u2019t like to cross.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Ecological baits to remove the nest
      If the anthill is directly in the place where it is causing damage, you can use homemade baits:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Bait How it works Preparation \/ Use
      Bicycle soda + Powdered sugar Sugar attracts ants, the soda reacts in their digestive system. Mix in a 1:1 ratio and sprinkle near the nest.
      Corn flour \/ Semolina Ants consume it, but they cannot digest it properly. Sprinkle dry flour on ant trails.
      Boiling water The fastest local destruction of the nest. Pour 2\u20133 liters of boiling water over the anthill (be careful of the roots of surrounding plants).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Key step: Fighting aphids
        Ants are often attracted to the garden by aphids, which produce sweet honeydew. Ants literally protect the aphids from ladybugs and other predators.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
