Once chlorine bleach (such as stain remover or Javel water) has removed the color from a fiber, the fabric is permanently discolored in that area. You can’t simply “wash out” the stain like dirt\u2014but you can save the garment with two easy methods by restoring the color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are the two most effective solutions to make the garment wearable again:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solution 1: Color Refreshing with Rubbing Alcohol
Best suited for: Small, fresh bleach splashes on dark fabrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This method doesn’t wash out the stain, but rather “shifts” the existing color from the surrounding area into the bleached section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Apply alcohol: Isopropyl alcohol (at least 70%).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Generously soak a cotton swab or a clean white cotton cloth with rubbing alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Dissolve the dye: From the outside in.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Gently rub the cotton swab around the bleach stain. The alcohol will dissolve the color pigments from the healthy fabric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          If there is no more pigment in the fabric to be moved, you will need to add new dye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Get a fabric marker that exactly matches the color of the garment. For denim, classic permanent markers in dark blue or black often work well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              First, test the marker on the inside of the hem to see how the color dries on the fibers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
