Two absolute everyday heroes that you most likely already have in your kitchen work wonders: baking soda and vegetable oil.

Here’s how to use them:

The Grease Remover: Baking Soda and Water
Over time, kitchen cabinets become covered with a sticky film of dust and cooking grease. Regular dish soap often reaches its limits here.

Here’s how: Mix baking soda with a little lukewarm water until a slightly runny paste forms.

Application: Apply the paste to the greasy areas with a damp cloth or sponge. Gently rub the surfaces. Baking soda is slightly alkaline, which means even burnt-on grease dissolves effortlessly without damaging the finish or wood.

Wipe down: Be sure to wipe with clean water afterward and dry the furniture with a microfiber cloth.

The Shine Booster: Vegetable Oil and White Vinegar

Once the cabinets are clean and grease-free, a polish made from cooking oil (e.g., sunflower or rapeseed oil) will give them a deep shine and refresh the colors—especially on wood or matte plastic fronts.

The mixing ratio: Mix 3 parts vegetable oil with 1 part white vinegar in a small bowl or spray bottle. The vinegar disinfects and cleans any remaining streaks, while the oil conditions the material.

Application: Put a few drops of the mixture onto a soft, dry cotton cloth (an old T-shirt works perfectly). Polish the cabinet fronts with it using circular motions.

Important: Use only a very small amount of oil and buff thoroughly with the dry side of the cloth at the end to ensure no sticky residue remains. The oil will soak in, fill in minor scratches, and leave a natural protective film against new dust.

⚠️ Caution with high-gloss kitchens: If you have a modern kitchen with delicate high-gloss fronts, avoid using baking soda paste! The fine particles could leave microscopic scratches. Instead, use only a highly diluted vinegar-water mixture and a soft polishing cloth on high-gloss surfaces.

To restore faded, dull, or greasy kitchen cabinets to their former glory, you don’t need to buy expensive specialty cleaners.
