The garlic effectively protects strawberries from gray mold (a common fungal disease) and keeps the dreaded strawberry mite away. In return, the plants make optimal use of the space in the garden bed.

Tomatoes: Garlic protects tomatoes from the troublesome spider mite and reduces the risk of the dreaded late blight. It is also often claimed that garlic enhances the flavor of tomatoes.

Carrots: The smell of garlic confuses the carrot fly, preventing it from finding your carrots. Conversely, carrots repel the annoying thrips from garlic.

Cucumbers & Zucchini: Garlic acts as a natural shield against powdery mildew and other fungal diseases to which cucurbits are very susceptible.

These herbs offer double the benefits:

Chamomile: Chamomile is beneficial to almost every plant. Planted next to garlic, it can intensify its aroma and strengthens the garlic bulbs’ resistance to soil-borne diseases.

Dill: Attracts beneficial insects (such as hoverflies), whose larvae make short work of aphids.

🚫 Caution: Bad Neighbors (Don’t Combine Them!)
Garlic doesn’t get along at all with its close relatives or plants that are heavy nitrogen consumers. Keep it well away from:

Peas, beans & lentils (legumes): Garlic severely inhibits the growth of legumes because it disrupts the nitrogen-fixing bacteria in their roots.

Onions, leeks & chives: These belong to the same family (Allium). If you plant them next to each other, you’ll attract swarms of onion flies, and diseases can spread rapidly throughout the entire bed.

Cabbage varieties (e.g., broccoli, cauliflower): Cabbage requires a huge amount of nutrients in the soil (heavy feeders), while garlic prefers lean, undisturbed conditions.

Gardener’s Tip: Garlic needs plenty of sun and loose, well-draining soil. If you plant it in autumn (October/November), it will have enough time to develop plump, thick bulbs by summer!

Garlic is a true bodyguard in the garden: Its intense sulfur compounds and essential oils naturally repel many pests (such as voles, slugs, aphids, and spider mites) and prevent fungal […]

[4

post-20635","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nteresting
["GET
