If you’re looking for the single best and most practical idea to use them in your home or garden, here’s the winner in the simplicity vs. utility category:

💧 Self-watering system for houseplants and seedlings
This trick will save your flowers during your vacation and save you time on daily watering.

What will you need?
An empty plastic bottle (0.5 l to 2 l depending on the size of the pot).
A piece of cotton string or an old T-shirt.
Scissors or a knife.

Procedure:
Cut the bottle in half: Turn the top part (with the lid) upside down and insert it into the bottom part.
Make a hole in the lid: Thread a cotton string through it and tie a knot so it doesn’t fall out.
Assembly: Fill the top part (with the lid facing down) with soil and plant the plant. The string should run through the middle of the soil.

Adding water: Pour water into the bottom part.
How does it work? The string works like a wick – thanks to capillary force, it sucks water from the lower container exactly according to how dry the soil is. This way, the plant “takes” only as much moisture as it needs.

💡 Other quick ideas:
Yolk separator: Squeeze an empty bottle, place the neck against the yolk and release the squeeze. The vacuum will pull the clean yolk inside.
Seedling protection (Mini greenhouse): Cut off the bottom of the bottle and place the top part on a young plant in the garden. It protects against frost and snails.

Cable Organizer: Cut the middle part of a bottle, roll up your extension cord or cables and they won’t get tangled in your socket.
Do you prefer a pile of small bottles at home or those big 5-liter barrels? I can help you with a custom project!

Plastic bottles are basically free “building material” that usually ends up in the trash (or, at best, in the yellow container).
