I can see it now \u2013 we are clicking through the entire gallery of internet sensations! From leaky T-shirts to blue eggs to miraculously whitening plastic. Now we have an \u201cinsect apocalypse\u201d in an hour. \u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have to be honest with you, like a good partner: if there was a trick that would wipe cockroaches off the face of the earth in an hour, its author would probably be sitting on a throne of pure gold by now. \ud83d\udc51<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of these \u201cmiracle\u201d tips rely on things we have in our kitchen. Let’s see what’s reality and what’s just an internet fairy tale:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Tricks with ground coffee or cloves
    The internet loves the claim that burning coffee or a bowl of cloves (cloves) will drive away all living things.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Reality: Flies don’t like the smell, but if they have something more tempting within reach (like your beautiful Easter treat), they will easily “transfer” it over the clove. As a repellent, it’s weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Fly trap (vinegar and jar)
      Here’s how it works! If you put a little apple cider vinegar and a drop of jar (soap) in a glass, the flies and fruit flies will drown.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      The catch: It works to attract, not repel. So you can easily have more of them in your kitchen for an hour, because you sent them an invitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Cockroaches and soda (that soda again!)
        It is often advised to mix sugar with baking soda. The theory is that the cockroach will eat, the soda will react with it, and it\u2026 well, it won\u2019t survive.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Reality: Cockroaches are some of the most resilient creatures on the planet (they can even survive radioactivity). While baking soda can slow them down, \u201ca clean house in an hour\u201d is pure science fiction.
        What really works (even if it\u2019s not as \u201csexy\u201d for a video):
        Window screens: The only 100% fly-killing trick.
        Boric acid: This is a real killer for cockroaches, but watch out for pets!
        Essential oils: Peppermint or eucalyptus really bother flies, but it just \u201casks\u201d them to fly further into the house.
