When it rains, rainwater in ordinary soil washes them deep into the groundwater, where they are inaccessible to plants.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charcoal trick: Charcoal works like a magnet. Thanks to its surface charge, it can capture these salts and keep them in the root zone of plants for much longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Making \u201cTerra Preta\u201d (Black Earth)<br>This process replicates the secret of the Amazon Indians. They mixed charcoal with waste and minerals (salts from bones and ashes), creating the most fertile soil in the world, which remains rich even after hundreds of years without further fertilization.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another \u201ctechnical\u201d reason: Household odor and moisture absorber<br>There is another reason, outside of the garden, why home maintenance experts mix these two ingredients:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Salt draws moisture from the air.<br>Charcoal absorbs odor molecules.<br>The combination: If you put a bowl of crushed charcoal and coarse salt in a basement or an old closet, you will create the most effective natural dehumidifier and mustiness absorber that exists.<br>How to use it at home in a flower pot?<br>If you want to give your houseplants the \u201cexpert treatment\u201d:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Crush a few pieces of charcoal (unscented, barbecue or medical grade).<br>Mix it with a little mineral fertilizer (salts).<br>Mix this mixture into the substrate when transplanting.
