It’s ideal even for dry goods like bread, cheese, cakes, sandwiches, and so on. However, according to recent reports, plastic wrap is not a good idea. More and more experts recommend storing cheese in parchment paper. Keep reading to find out why this change is so important and why you should wrap cheese in parchment paper.

Cheese is a staple in almost every kitchen. This expensive food can instantly enhance the flavor and texture of any dish. It’s common to cover leftover cheese with plastic wrap after use, but experts advise against this practice.

According to experts, this dairy product should not be stored in plastic wrap, but in another medium to help maintain its flavor, just like the day you bought it. While plastic wrap undoubtedly prevents cheese from drying out, it also retains a lot of moisture over time, which can spoil the cheese. Excess moisture can encourage mold growth on the cheese, especially on the surface. Therefore, remember to scrape off some of the outer layer of the cheese wrapped in plastic wrap before each use.

Parchment paper or wax paper are much more suitable for wrapping cheese, as they prevent it from drying out too much or retaining too much moisture. Blue cheese, in particular, requires special attention. Experts recommend wrapping blue cheese in aluminum foil after wrapping it in parchment paper, as this type of cheese tends to become liquid over time.

Cheese should be stored in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator. The slightly warmer temperature of this location is ideal for cheese storage. Hard cheeses should ideally be stored at a constant room temperature of 8 to 15 degrees Celsius, and soft cheeses at 5 to 8 degrees Celsius.

For many of us, plastic wrap is the preferred method for wrapping or sealing food.
