Nutritionists explain and warn against overly strict diets and rapid weight loss.

Eggs are a true superfood! In addition to their numerous beneficial nutrients (vitamins B12, D, phosphorus, iodine, lutein, etc.), they provide the maximum amount of so-called “high biological value” proteins, as they are composed of eight essential amino acids, i.e., those that the body cannot produce on its own and must be obtained from food. In practice, two eggs contain 13 g of protein (approximately 20% of a woman’s daily needs) and are equivalent to 100 g of meat (a small steak). This protein density makes them particularly filling. Having a boiled or soft-boiled egg for breakfast is much better for your health (and your figure!) than toast with jam or cereal with honey, as it prevents the typical craving that kicks in around 11 a.m. and makes you reach for something fatty or sweet.

The egg: the star food of diets.
It’s no wonder nutritionists consider it the ideal food for those watching their weight, as, in addition to being rich in protein that preserves muscle mass, it’s low in calories (about 90 calories for an average 60g egg). This is precisely the case with Dr. Jean-Michel Cohen, who in his latest book, The Cohen Method (first edition), makes it the main ingredient of his express diet. Before following this strict diet, the author emphasizes four points:

The egg diet is a good starting point. “It’s actually a very rapid dietary sequence,” as the participants of the Savoir Maigrir program have called it. This express formula, which aims to lose between 3 and 4 kg in one week, is part of a general weight-loss protocol; otherwise, the weight will automatically return.
It must be followed correctly. “This formula reduces energy expenditure by 10% to 15%, as the body adapts to counteract the effects of the diet. That’s why it’s necessary to follow the program strictly and not limit yourself to a rapid-fire sequence of diets.”

The diet should be short-term. “It’s advisable to limit this phase strictly to eight days, even if this means repeating it every two or three months. To avoid fatigue, it may be better to add a multivitamin (available at pharmacies) and, if necessary, one or two potassium tablets, especially for people with deficiencies (with a doctor’s approval).”
There are contraindications: diabetes, especially insulin-dependent diabetes, pregnancy, people with compulsive overeating, severe heart rhythm disorders, liver or kidney damage.
Egg Diet: A Typical Day

. Upon closer inspection, it turns out there isn’t much to eat, and you need enough motivation to stick to this monodiet, even for a short time. Two clarifications: Dr. Cohen recommends drinking 1.5 to 2 liters of water a day, preferably mineral water, and eating the vegetables used to make the broth when you’re hungry.

Breakfast: Unlimited coffee, tea, water, herbal tea (unsweetened). 2 or 3 egg whites without yolk. 10% dairy product.
Lunch: 2 or 3 egg whites + 1 whole egg with yolk. Unlimited vegetable broth. 1 fat-free dairy product. 250 ml of water with lemon juice.
Dinner: 2 or 3 egg whites + 1 whole egg with yolk. Unlimited vegetable broth. 1 fat-free dairy product. 250 ml of water with lemon juice.
Egg Diet: It’s Raining Criticism!

Some nutritionists question this diet, which they consider too drastic. One nutritionist even states that she is “surprised that such a strict diet can still be offered today, even for a short period, with so few daily calories. It is unsustainable and leads to overeating and the yo-yo effect. Furthermore, this type of diet is no longer fashionable.” Today, weight-loss programs are more consistent in order to prevent weight gain after stopping. And most women look for programs that do not put their health at risk.

The same story is shared by a nutritionist who believes that “in fact, this type of diet is no longer fashionable. It is a high-protein diet in the form of a semi-diet for one week. This egg-based diet is very difficult to follow and carries short-term risks for the kidneys if water intake is not respected. There is also a risk of altered body function, weight gain, or even complete loss of appetite after returning to one’s normal routine.”

Lose 3 to 4 kg in a week: that’s exactly what this express egg diet promises!
