If the circuit or outlet cannot handle the load, it can overheat, which can lead to a short circuit and fire.
Faulty Wires/Connectors: Damaged, frayed, poorly insulated wires, loose connectors, or faulty outlets can cause sparks, arcing, and thus a fire.
Faulty Capacitors/Motors: Overtime, the capacitors and motors in air conditioners can fail and overheat. Overheating of motors can lead to insulation failure and ignition.

Flammable Refrigerants (Especially R290 and R600a)
Although older, ozone-depleting refrigerants (e.g. R22) have been replaced, the new ones are not completely harmless. This is especially true for natural refrigerants such as R290 (propane) and R600a (isobutane), which are becoming increasingly common due to their environmentally friendly properties.

Explosion hazard: These refrigerants are flammable. In the event of a leak, if they accumulate in sufficient concentration in a confined space and come into contact with an ignition source (e.g. spark, open flame, hot surface), there is a risk of explosion.

Improper installation/service: The risk of leakage is significantly increased if installation or maintenance is carried out incorrectly or unprofessionally.

Overheating and Insufficient Airflow
Overheating of the system is a serious risk and is often the result of improper maintenance or installation.

Clogged Filters: Clogged air filters restrict airflow, forcing the motor to work harder and overheat.
Blocked Outdoor Unit: Obstacles around the outdoor unit (plants, walls, other objects) prevent heat transfer, which can lead to the compressor overheating and failure.
Dust and Dirt: Dust and dirt accumulated on the heat exchanger fins forms an insulating layer, preventing efficient heat exchange, which also causes overheating.

Overpressure in the System
Excessive pressure in the refrigerant circuit can lead to an explosion.

Too much refrigerant: Charging the system with too much refrigerant can result in overpressure, especially at high outdoor temperatures.
Blockages: Blockages in the refrigerant lines (e.g. dirt, ice) can block the flow, leading to a build-up of pressure from the compressor.
Faulty valves: If the safety valves fail, excess pressure cannot escape, which can cause pipes or tanks to burst or explode.

Flammable Materials Nearby
Although this is not a fault of the air conditioning system, it is still a significant source of danger.

Improper placement: Storing flammable materials (e.g. curtains, paper, solvents, fuels) in the immediate vicinity of or under the indoor or outdoor unit is extremely dangerous. An electrical fault or spark can instantly cause a fire.
Leakage and accumulation: If a flammable refrigerant leaks from the system and flammable materials are nearby, it can create an explosive mixture that can easily explode.
Notas:

Professional installation and maintenance: Always entrust the installation and regular maintenance of your air conditioner (at least once a year) to a qualified professional.
Filter replacement: Clean or replace the air filters regularly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Clean the area around the outdoor unit, removing vegetation and obstacles.
Do not overload the circuit: Do not use an extension cord or power strip to operate the air conditioner. Make sure the circuit can handle the load.
Watch for signs: If there is an unusual smell (burning plastic), noise, excessive heat or abnormal operation, turn off the equipment immediately and call a professional.
Being aware of these dangers and taking the appropriate precautions can greatly contribute to the safety of our home and family.

Overloaded Circuits: Air conditioners, especially older or improperly sized systems, draw significant amounts of electricity.
