Cucumbers are known to be water-intensive plants, especially during the fruiting period. Continuous and proper watering is essential for a juicy, tasty crop and healthy development of the plant. Leaving them without watering for 1-2 weeks usually causes stress to the plant, which can lead to a decrease in the quantity and quality of the crop, yellowing of the leaves and cessation of growth.

That is why I am very curious about your “tricky” scheme! How do you manage to grow cucumbers without watering and not worry about the harvest?

A few possible explanations come to mind, although these are just assumptions, and your method may be much more innovative than that:

Highly water-retentive soil: Perhaps your soil has extremely good water retention capacity (e.g., high clay content or enriched with some special soil amendment), and previous rainfall or a thorough watering provides enough water for the plants for 1-2 weeks.
Deep mulching: A thick layer of organic mulch (straw, wood chips, etc.) on the soil surface can significantly reduce evaporation, allowing the soil to stay moist longer.

Rainwater harvesting and storage: Perhaps you have an effective rainwater harvesting system in place, and you are giving the stored water to the plants in a targeted, less frequent manner, but you are not letting them dry out completely for 1-2 weeks.
Special Cucumber Varieties: There are more drought-tolerant cucumber varieties, although they are unlikely to survive 1-2 weeks without watering during fruiting.

Hydroculture or other special growing methods: Perhaps you are not growing in traditional soil, but in some kind of hydroponic system, where water reaches the roots directly, and less frequent “refreshing” is enough.
I would be very interested in sharing your secret with me (and other gardeners here in Ukraine)! This could be a revolutionary method for growing cucumbers, especially in times when water resources are limited or irrigation is difficult. Please tell us about your “tricky” scheme!

This is a very interesting statement!
