This is your makeshift “blade sharpener.” Start “Grating”: Grab the grater firmly and, with the rough base of the cup, start “grating” the outside of the grater blades (i.e. the part that does not come into contact with the food when you are grating). Move in one direction, as if you were grating the cup.
Repeat: Repeat this movement several times on all areas of the grater blades. The friction of the rough ceramic will help to realign the edges and remove small imperfections.
Wash thoroughly: After “sharpening”, wash the grater thoroughly with soap and water to remove any ceramic or metal residue that may have come off.
Option 2: With Aluminum Foil (useful for small burrs)

Crush the Aluminum Foil: Take a piece of aluminum foil (about 30×30 cm) and firmly crush it until it forms a dense, compact ball.
“Sharpen” the Grater: With the ball of aluminum foil, start “grating” the grater blades. Use an up-and-down motion on all cutting surfaces.

Remove Burrs: Aluminum foil, being soft and pliable, helps remove small burrs and “clean” the cutting edges, making food glide better.

Wash Well: Wash the grater with soap and water after the process.

Why it works (and what doesn’t):

This method doesn’t recreate a new knife edge in the traditional sense. Instead, it realigns the micro-edges that have bent or accumulated debris, making the blades efficient at “gripping” and “cutting” food again.

It’s a temporary solution for graters that have become “dull” from use, but not for those that are really damaged or have very worn holes.

With this simple trick, you’ll be back to grating cheese

The 5-Minute Secret: The Ceramic or Aluminum Trick!
