Here’s an easy way to recognize it!

Your “Recipe” to Identify Real Olive Oil: The Refrigeration Test! 🧐💧
This is the most well-known and easiest method to apply at home, especially for olive oil. It is based on its chemical composition.

Ingredients (what you need):

A bottle of olive oil you want to test
A small glass (like a shot glass) or a small, clear container
Your refrigerator
Instructions (the “step by step”):

Prepare the Sample: Pour a small amount of the olive oil you want to test into the small glass. It doesn’t need to be much, just enough to see the reaction.
The Trip to the Refrigerator: Place the glass with the oil in the refrigerator (not the freezer!) and leave it there for at least 24 hours.
Watch the Magic (or lack thereof): After the time has passed, remove the glass from the refrigerator and observe what happened. The Results (What to Look For):

Real Olive Oil (a good sign!): If the oil becomes cloudy, thickens, and begins to solidify partially or completely, this is an excellent indicator that it is pure, high-quality olive oil. The monounsaturated fats present in extra virgin olive oil, which are the healthiest, crystallize and become solid at lower temperatures.
Fake or Adulterated Olive Oil (be careful!): If the oil remains completely liquid and clear, even after 24 hours in the cold, this is a strong sign that it has been mixed with cheaper oils (such as sunflower oil, canola oil, etc.) that do not solidify at these temperatures.
Additional Tips for Your Recognition “Recipe”:
To complement the refrigeration test, pay attention to other details:

The Aroma: Authentic olive oil should have a fresh, fruity aroma, which may be reminiscent of green olives, herbs, apple, or tomato. If it smells musty, rancid, metallic, or simply “fat” without a scent, be suspicious.
The Taste: When tasting, a good olive oil should have a fruity flavor, with hints of bitterness and a slight spiciness in the throat when swallowing. This spiciness is a sign of polyphenols, which are beneficial to health. If the flavor is bland, rancid or unpleasant, it is not a good olive oil.
The Packaging: Quality olive oils always come in dark glass bottles or opaque cans. Light is the enemy of olive oil and quickly degrades its properties.

The Price: High-quality extra virgin olive oil has a complex production process. An excessively low price can be a warning sign.
The Label: Look for terms such as “Extra Virgin” or “Extra Virgin”, “First cold pressed” and information about the origin (country, region and, if possible, olives used).
Remember that this home test is a good indicator, but it is not a substitute for laboratory tests. However, it is a practical tool for every household.

Your “Recipe” to Identify Real Olive Oil: The Refrigeration Test! 🧐💧This is the most well-known and easiest method to apply at home, especially for olive oil.
